[문 16∼문 17] Although intimately related, sensation and perception play two complementary but different roles in how we interpret our world. Sensation refers to the process of sensing our environment through touch, taste, sight, sound, and smell. This information is sent to our brains in raw form where perception comes into play. Perception is the way we interpret these sensations and therefore make sense of everything around us. To illustrate the difference between sensation and perception, take the example of a young baby. Its eyes take the same data as those of an adult. But its perception is entirely different because it has no idea of what it is looking at. With experience, perception enables us to assume that ______________________________________, even when we can only see part of it, creating useful information of the surroundings.
